As a summer instructor, there are numerous challenges and responsibilities you will need to address. The accelerated pace of summer terms makes this even more evident. Summer Session in collaboration with the Graduate School Certificate in College Teaching, and Duke Learning Innovation has organized a workshop to support your professional development as a reflective, collegial instructor.

Topics will include:

  • identifying resources for composing effective learning objectives
  • identifying resources for designing your course syllabus,
  • identifying resources for classroom assessment techniques
  • preparing materials to showcase you as an instructor as you prepare to enter the professional job market.

Other topics include available teaching resources, summer logistics, and information about a credit-bearing course you can take this summer alongside your class: GS780S Graduate IOR Seminar. Additionally, a panel of experienced summer instructors will share their experiences and welcome your questions. Graduate student instructors and first-time summer instructors are strongly encouraged to attend. All are welcome!
