Professional Development Grants

The Graduate School has awarded two Professional Development Grants for the 2021 calendar year.

The grants provide up to $2,000 to help graduate students and their departments create discipline-specific professional development programming and resources for exploring both academic and broad career options. Such programming complements the offerings from The Graduate School, which focus on topics that are applicable across disciplines.

The 2021 grant recipients and their proposed programming:

Nursing: Supporting a four-event virtual series to help Duke nursing Ph.D. students learn about both traditional academic career trajectories and diverse career paths (such as government agencies and industry) after their doctoral studies.

Sociology: Supporting workshops that will feature discussions of research or computational methodologies by a diverse range of speakers and help provide a space for exchange that fosters a community of inclusive and interdisciplinary computational scholars.
