Duke's Graduate and Professional Student Council (GPSC) won the Graduate/Professional Student Organization of the Year Award at the National Association of Graduate–Professional Students (NAGPS) National Conference at University of Minnesota–Twin Cities on November 1, 2008. The criterion for this award is outstanding service at the local and national levels. GPSC currently has two board members on NAGPS (Gautham Pandiyan and Alethea Duncan) as well as participation at NAGPS's Legislative Action Days (LAD) twice a year. In addition to service on a national level, GPSC strives to improve the life of graduate and professional students at Duke and in the state in a variety of ways.
