4 Ph.D. Students Earn Fall 2022 Grants for Evolutionary Medicine Research

Four Duke Ph.D. students received the Triangle Center for Evolutionary Medicine’s Graduate Student Awards for fall 2022.
The one-year awards help graduate students pursue research in evolutionary medicine relevant to their graduate research. The awards provide up to $7,500 per student for direct research expenses.
The Duke recipients and their funded research:
- Rebecca Cook (Evolutionary Anthropology): An evolutionary approach to pelvic implant shapes in patients with hip cancer
- Trisha Dalapati (Molecular Genetics and Microbiology): Genetic selection of a protective variant following pandemic pathogen infections
- Tania P. Guerrero Altamirano (Genetics and Genomics): Combinatorial gene by environment interactions in the evolution of disease variance
- Bach Nguyen (Biochemistry): Investigating the natural evolution of anti-Gram-negative peptide antibiotics
