Supporting Neurodivergent Graduate Students

Speaker

Tara Chandrasekhar, MD | Jim Coleman, PhD | Yan Li, Psy.D. | John Mitchell, PhD | Darla Swann, PhD

It is estimated that 15-20% of the world's population is neurodivergent. However, experts suggest that the true prevalence may be even higher, as many cases go unreported or are misdiagnosed.

Neurodivergent graduate students have unique strengths, but also face unique challenges. Cultivating an inclusive environment for all students requires us to better understand the vast diversity of the human mind.

Join a panel of experts in an engaging discussion on neurodivergence, including existing resources to support neurodivergent students, best practices in recognizing signs and providing accommodations, and the lived experience of the neurodivergent population.

Panelists include:

  • Tara Chandrasekhar, MD, Psychiatrist at Duke Center for Autism and Brain Development, Assistant Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences
  • Jim Coleman, PhD, Professor and DGS in Biology at UNCG, former Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor at UNCG
  • Yan Li, Psy.D., Licensed Psychologist and Associate Dean of Graduate Programs
  • John Mitchell, PhD, Clinical psychologist at Duke ADHD Clinic, Duke CAPS, Duke Associate Professor in Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences
  • Darla Swann, PhD, Licensed Psychologist and Learning Consultant at Duke Academic Resource Center

This event is intended for DGSs and DGSAs as part of the DGS & DGSA Professional Development series. Pre-registration is required to receive the Zoom link.
