RCR Forum: From Publication to Product: Take your Research out of the Lab and Into the Environment (GS717.14)

Is there an application and market for research outside of the academic world? Join Jesko von Windheim (Prof. of the Practice Nicholas School and CEO of Tyrata), Kathleen Horvath (Program Manager, Duke Design Climate), and Jodi Psoter (Science Librarian) to learn how academic research can transfer to a useful, beneficial, and marketable product. You will learn about protecting research, the steps to patent a product, resources, search strategies, and the intellectual property (IP) process at Duke. We will consider ethical issues such as ownership and availability along with the benefits and risks surrounding IP.  This workshop is for anyone who wants to learn more about the process of commercializing research, how to apply it to your work, and benefits for you and your future employer. Whether you plan on staying in academia or moving to industry, learn the ins-and-out of transforming research to make a real-world impact.

This workshop is intended for new graduate students in engineering, natural sciences, and basic biomedical sciences.

Zoom connection information will be sent via email to registered attendees the day before.
