Join a panel of alumni reflecting on their professional lives since departing Duke. An opportunity for structured networking with the speakers and other Duke alumni who are leaders in their fields (accessible via Box) will follow the conversation. The event is open exclusively to graduate and professional students.

Kristina D. Chadwick Ph.D.'00 has spent a 25-year career in drug development, with 19 years at Bristol-Myers Squibb (BMS), where she's currently a Global Program Leader in Immunology and Cardiovascular. Her previous roles at BMS included Global Regulatory Lead and leadership positions in Drug Safety Evaluation. Chadwick has contributed to various drug applications and publications. Before BMS, she worked at Roche Palo Alto and Targeted Genetics. Chadwick earned her PhD in Pharmacology and Toxicology from Duke University. She's a Diplomate of the American Board of Toxicology and has held multiple leadership roles in the Society of Toxicology.

Richard Colvin, M.D.'96, Ph.D'95 is the Chief Medical Officer and head of Research and Development for bluebird bio. Rich received his MD and PhD from Duke University School of Medicine where he did his graduate work under Mariano Garcia Blanco, MD, PhD in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology. Rich joined bluebird in 2018 and was medical lead of the thalassemia program and led bluebird’s clinical research and development prior to becoming CMO. Since Rich has been CMO, bluebird submitted and gained FDA approval for the gene therapies Zynteglo for patients with beta-thalassemia, Skysona for the treatment of patients with cerebral adrenoleukodystrophy, and Lyfgenia for the treatment of patients with sickle cell disease. Prior to bluebird, Rich was an executive director in translational medicine at Novartis where he led early-stage anti-infective and gene therapy development programs. Rich clinically trained in Internal Medicine and Infectious Diseases at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital and remains on faculty at Harvard Medical School. He sees patients in the Infectious Diseases clinic at Massachusetts General Hospital.

Micah Gilmer, A.M.'07, Ph.D.'09 is a co-founder at Frontline Solutions, a consulting firm working with foundations and nonprofit organizations to plan, innovate, learn and transform. He also serves as Managing Partner of Activest, a research and action firm that helps cities and counties move toward fiscal justice: policies that are both just and beneficial for the long-term financial health of the city and its residents. In 2021 and 2022, Micah served as Interim CEO of the Mary Reynolds Babcock Foundation. 

Patricia Sánchez Abril, A.B.’96, J.D. is Interim Dean of the University of Miami School of Law. She is professor of Business Law at the University of Miami Herbert Business School and has served in academic leadership roles at the Graduate School and Miami Herbert Business School. Her research centers on privacy and business law. Professor Abril’s teaching interests include business law, negotiation, and business ethics. In 2018, she was awarded the University of Miami Faculty Senate Outstanding Teaching Award. After graduating from Duke as an A.B. Duke Scholar, Professor Abril earned her J.D. from Harvard Law School.
