For questions about formatting or submitting your thesis or dissertation electronically, see The Graduate School’s Guide for Electronic Submission of Thesis and Dissertations (PDF).
Microsoft Word Template
If you are using Word 2003 or later, this template contains a great deal of step-by-step instruction on correct formatting. For help with Word (e.g., page numbering, section breaks, etc.), visit the OIT Online Technology Training page or call the OIT help desk at 919-684-2200. You can also review this video of a thesis formatting workshop.
For your convenience, The Graduate School is providing a LaTex template (ZIP) that was created by Duke Alumnus Michael Gratton and updated in July 2011.
Notes about the LaTex Template
- This LaTex template is for both Masters and PhD students. Master theses must also have an abstract title page. This template may not show one, so please be sure to add it.
- Neither The Graduate School nor OIT supports LaTex beyond providing this template.
