Call for Applications: Graduate Faculty Fellows Program
Deadline: March 1, 2025
Offered by The Graduate School in collaboration with the Office for Faculty Advancement, the purpose of the TGS Graduate Faculty Fellows (TGS-GFF) program is two-fold. First and foremost, the program is intended to provide graduate faculty who aspire to leadership positions with the opportunity to explore those interests by collaborating with The Graduate School (TGS). The second goal of the program is to bring new ideas and expertise into TGS, to enhance our delivery of evidence-informed graduate education, driven by best practices.
An information session on the fellowship will be held on Monday, February 17, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. Please register for the information session using this link.
About the Fellowship
Tenured graduate faculty in any discipline are invited to apply for the TGS-GFF program. One faculty member will be selected for the fellowship starting in Fall 2025.
- In Fall 2025, the TGS-GFF will participate in activities with a cohort of Provost Faculty Fellows and attend Leadership Team meetings of The Graduate School.
- Starting in Spring 2026, the TGS-GFF will commit 20% effort (equivalent to one day/ week) to working with members of the TGS leadership team on projects of mutual interest.
- The TGS-GFF will attend the annual meeting of the Council of Graduate Schools (CGS, national graduate education professional association) and participate in meetings of the Duke Executive Committee of the Graduate Faculty (ECGF) and TGS Leadership Team.
- Throughout the fellowship, the TGS-GFF will be mentored by graduate education leaders at Duke.
At the end of the fellowship, the TGS-GFF will have strengthened their leadership skills, broadened their professional network, and had the opportunity to assess whether a leadership role in graduate education is aligned with their interests and career goals. This is an excellent opportunity for a tenured graduate faculty member who is committed to enhancing graduate education and wants to have an impact beyond their discipline, program, department, and school.
How to Apply
Candidates should signal their interest by completing the online application form. The application requests the information listed below:
- A personal statement describing the candidate’s interest in the program, experience in graduate education (as an advisor, DGS, member of ECGF, etc.), what they seek to gain by participating and how the experience will be leveraged to further their career.
- In a separate statement, candidates will describe an idea for a potential project that aligns with their interests and those of TGS. The idea does not have to be fully fleshed out, as this work will be done during the fellowship. However, it should include a justification for the work, the target audience, and expected outcomes. Preference will be given to candidates whose proposed projects have potential to reach the broadest range of students from different disciplines, identities, and backgrounds.
- Each candidate must also submit a letter from their Chair or supervisor, indicating support for their participation in the TGS-GFF program and acknowledging their commitment to participating in TGS Leadership Team meetings in fall 2025 and to devoting the equivalent of one day/ week to fellowship-related matters in the spring, summer and fall semesters of 2026. TGS will cover 20% of salary and fringe for the TGS-GFF during 2026.
