Thursday, February 10, 2022
11:00 am to 11:30 am

Ashley Trama, Ph.D.

As part of a series of short, focused career conversations with former Duke PhD students and postdocs, we'll feature Ashley Trama, PhD, Senior Director, Research and Development Program Management, at Locus Biosciences.  Ashley received her PhD from Duke Immunology in 2014 and her MBA from Duke’s Fuqua School of Business in 2018 with a certificate in Healthcare Management through the Weekend Executive MBA program. Ashley joined Locus Biosciences in 2019, and currently leads the company’s Project Management Office, which is responsible for delivering all of Locus’ asset development programs and platform projects. She is also the Program Lead on  Locus’ partnership with Janssen Pharmaceuticals. Prior to her current role, Ashley was Sr. Director of Technical Operations where she managed the qualification and validation of Locus’ new cGMP manufacturing facility, and additional capital projects. Prior to joining Locus, Ashley worked at the Duke Human Vaccine institute where she managed a protein expression laboratory and operated as the Assistant Director of Program Management.

Ashley will also tell us about the open Project Manager positions at Locus – she is the Hiring Manager, so please be sure to attend if you are interested in this highly ranked local company!

  • Locus Biosciences has an immediate opening for an R&D Project Manager, who will be responsible for developing, maintaining, and executing research plans. The Locus Project Management team includes multiple Duke alums and is looking to expand to include new PMs. Previous experience in project management is not required for the role. Interested applicants may email Ashley Trama directly (ashley.trama@locus-bio.com).

5 Questions:
1. Could you tell us about your background?
2. How did you get your job at Locus Bio?
3. What’s a typical day like at Locus (pre- and post-COVID)?
4. What can postdocs and students who would like to work in this field (or explore it further) do to prepare?
5. What is the employment outlook for this field, given the COVID crisis? (please note that the answer to this question may be “We don’t know yet.”)

6. Bonus 6th question: Can you tell us about the open Project Manager position at Locus?

The Alum Zoom Series is sponsored by the Duke Office of Postdoctoral Services and Duke Graduate School. Questions? Email Molly Starback, Director of Duke Postdoc Services, at molly.starback@duke.edu
