Purpose
Outlines the separate procedures for academic and employment related concerns.
Summary
It is the responsibility of the Director of Graduate Studies (DGS) to inform each graduate student of the appropriate channels of appeal.
For matters related to academic and student‑status, the DGS is should be the first point of contact for a complaint. If the complaint cannot be resolved satisfactorily at this level, the student may address, in turn, the department chair, the senior associate dean of The Graduate School, and the dean of The Graduate School, who shall be the final avenue of appeal.
For grievances arising from matters related to employment or alleged violations of the Collective Bargaining Agreement, Ph.D. student-workers must follow the grievance procedures established in the CBA. These grievances are resolved through the CBA process and not through The Graduate School’s academic grievance pathway. An appeal must be filed in writing with the next appropriate university officer within 10 days after a decision has been formally rendered by any of the university officers mentioned above.
