All sessions are planned to take place in-person on Fridays from 12:30-4:30 p.m. in the Libraries on West Campus. Dates for the 2022 session are January 21, January 28, February 11, February 18, and March 18.

In addition to attending all portions of each session, participants commit up to 5 hours per week of work outside the sessions for completion of assessments and the team project. Note that in addition to the five formal session meetings, participants have two intersession assignments to complete during the break between sessions 4 and 5.

Should conditions or university policy require a shift to virtual offerings, the program will comply with those requirements, but applicants should be prepared to attend in-person sessions on all five dates.

Session 1: An Introduction to the Emerging Leaders Institute

January 21, 2022, 12:30 pm to 4:30 pm

This session will provide an overview of the program, introduce the critical thinking model at the heart of the program, and begin the program-long team projects.

Session 2: Leveraging Strengths and COMMUNICATING IN TEAMS

January 28, 2022, 12:30 pm to 4:30 pm

In this session, we’ll use tools to help you describe your strengths to others and help your team communicate effectively. Your team will also schedule a meeting outside session time with the program director to share progress on your team project.

Session 3: ARTICULATING YOUR VALUE AND Leading Beyond Yourself

February 11, 2022, 12:30 pm to 4:30 pm

How can you apply your insights about yourself as an individual and as a team member to articulate your value? What are the next steps you can take to lead beyond your team?

Session 4: Emotional Intelligence and Strategic Communication

February 18, 2022, 12:30 pm to 4:30 pm

This session will help you better understand emotional intelligence so you can continue to develop this essential tool for leadership, while offering strategies for effective communication in writing and team presentations.

Intersession assignments

All participants are required to complete two assignments during this period:

  1. Schedule and complete a 45-minute individual coaching session with your assigned coach at a mutually convenient time. (May be Zoom-based or in-person.)
  2. Schedule a 30-minute team meeting with Dr. Bostrom, including all team members. An additional team meeting may be required before the final session. (May be Zoom-based on in-person.)

FINAL SESSION: Team Presentations and Graduation

March 18, 2021, 12:30 pm to 4:30 pm

The program wraps up with final team presentations of the program-long projects, a reflection on the team experience, a plan for future professional development goals, and a “graduation” ceremony.
