Duke Graduate School

These awards go to doctoral students past course work and engaged in the early stages of dissertation research.

The internship is for the new University Center of Exemplary Mentoring at Duke. It’s funded by a three-year grant from the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation.

The Graduate School offers three administrative internships. These are nine-month internships, running from September 1 to May 31. Each internship provides an annual stipend (equivalent to the Graduate School-recommended Arts and Sciences nine-month stipend established each year), as well as tuition and mandatory fees. In addition, The Graduate School will pay the health insurance premium for recipients who enroll in the Duke Student Medical Insurance Plan.

Through the generosity of the Gurney Harriss Kearns Foundation for Graduate Study in Religion Endowment Fund, this fellowship supports advanced-year students in the Religion Ph.D. program. It provides summer and/or academic-year tuition, fees, and a stipend at the school rate.

Through the generosity of the Hung Taiwan-Duke University Fellowship Fund, this fellowship provides academic and summer tuition, fees, and a stipend at the school rate for years 1-2 for Ph.D.

Through the generosity of the J. Horst Meyer Student Fellowship Fund, this fellowship supports Ph.D. students in the Physics Ph.D.

Through the generosity of the J.A. Scott Fellowship Fund, this fellowship supports Ph.D. students in the Romance Studies Ph.D. program, giving preference to those in French & Francophone Studies. It provides summer tuition, fees, and a stipend at the school rate.

The James B. Duke 100th Anniversary Fund provides fellowships for students who wish to pursue a program leading to the PhD in The Graduate School. Its objective is to help attract and develop outstanding scholars at Duke.

The James B. Duke International Research Travel Fellowship provides an annual stipend (equivalent to the Graduate School-recommended Arts and Sciences nine-month stipend established each year), as well as tuition, mandatory fees and a $2,000 travel allowance for students who need to conduct their dissertation research abroad for the duration of the academic year, both fall and spring semesters. In addition, The Graduate School will pay the health insurance premium for recipients who enroll in the Duke Student Medical Insurance Plan.

The Jo Rae Wright Fellowship for Outstanding Women in Science was created in memory of our dear friend and colleague who served as dean of The Graduate School from 2006 until 2011. This fellowship is funded through an endowment given in her name to recognize two Ph.D.
