RCR Forum: SACNAS Movie Night at The Ruby: A Million Miles Away (GS715.02)

This film presentation and panel discussion is in collaboration with the Duke University SACNAS chapter and other student groups. A Million Miles Away is a film about a latin youth who went from a migrant farm worker to a being a NASA astronaut. Following the film the Duke SACNAS president will lead a panel discussion about the experiences of latin immigrants at Duke. The panel will feature both faculty and students representing different countries and should be educational and insightful for the audience. Panelists include Drs. Everardo Macias, Ralphael Valdivia, Gina-Maria Pomann and students Debbie Badillo and Elizabeth Rojo. We have made a valiant effort to invite Jose Hernandez, whom the film is based on but he is busy the day of the event. BioCoRE and the IDEALS office will oversee the logistics of the film screening (we have already secured the rights/license to show the film and have reserved the theater). The IDEALS office will also encourage attendance of the students in BIOTRAIN 760: Equity in Research along with other partners on campus who work with both graduates and undergraduates.
