Ryan Lekivetz, Ph.D., Director of Advanced Analytics R&D, JMP Statistical Discovery
JMP Statistical Discovery is a statistical software and analytics company that develops tools for statistical analysis, modeling, experimental design, and data visualization used by scientists, engineers, and researchers across industries. At JMP,
Dr. Ryan Lekivetz serves as Director of Advanced Analytics R&D and leads the Design of Experiments and Reliability Development team.
Dr. Lekivetz is a statistician specializing in design of experiments, with research spanning experimental design methodology, reliability, combinatorial testing, and the application of statistical methods to industrial and software systems. He holds a Ph.D. in Statistics from Simon Fraser University and has extensive experience in methodological research and industry R&D.
In this session, Ryan will discuss:
• What kinds of industry roles are available to Ph.D.-trained researchers
• How Ph.D.-level roles differ from positions targeting master’s graduates
• How methods, algorithms, and experimental design are developed and used in industry
• What technical and professional skills employers value
• How to translate academic research experience into industry applications
• Resume, interview, and hiring strategies for Ph.D. candidates
The session will include a 30–45 minute presentation followed by 15–30 minutes of Q&A, with food and informal networking afterward beginning at 4:30 pm.
This event is open to all Duke Ph.D. students and postdocs. This session may be especially relevant to those working in statistics, biostatistics, data science, experimental design, statistical computing, or related methodological areas who are interested in industry R&D careers.
Sponsored by the Department of Statistical Science, with the support of The Graduate School’s Professional Development Grant.
