Integrating evidence-based mentoring case studies with insights from the “helping professions” of counseling and coaching, this in-person series synthesizes the art of relational attunement with the science of structured, evidence-based mentoring. Faculty participants will strengthen their ability to mentor with empathy, clarity, and confidence, building relationships that foster growth, inclusion, and resilience.

The session will run from 10:00am–12:00pm, with lunch provided. An optional discussion will continue until 1:00pm.

Session 1: The Art of Awareness
Cultivating understanding of self and other as a precursor to effective mentoring.

  • Deepen awareness of how your identity, experiences, values and beliefs influence your mentoring
  • Deepen awareness of who your mentee is and what they need to thrive
  • Deepen awareness of the context in which your mentor, encompassing things within and beyond your control

Each of the four sessions in this series will be co-led by Maria Wisdom, Assistant Vice Provost for Faculty Advancement, and Yan Li, Associate Dean for Graduate Programs.

This session has been approved for two hours of RCR credit and is intended for graduate faculty.
