As part of a series of short, focused career conversations with former Duke Ph.D. students and postdocs, we'll feature Ana Sanchez, Ph.D.'10 (Immunology), Associate Dean for Scientific Administration and Finance for the Duke School of Medicine.

Previously, she was Vice President for Research & Development and Vice President for Research & Development Project Management at Locus Biosciences. Before that, she was Director of Program Management for the Duke Human Vaccine Institute. In these positions, she’s drawn on technical skills learned during her Ph.D. training, program management skills learned throughout her career, and a desire to learn new areas of research administration and drug development.

Ana will tell us how she transitioned from academia to industry and back again, and provide tips for Ph.D. students and postdocs who are interested in careers in scientific project management.

Five Career Questions:

  1. Can you tell us about your background?
  2. How did you get your job?
  3. What's a typical day like at your organization?
  4. What can grad students and postdocs who would like to work in this field or explore it further do to prepare?
  5. What is the employment outlook for this field?

This event is part of the Alum Zooms series sponsored by The Graduate School and the Office of Postdoctoral Services. Duke graduate students, postdocs, staff, faculty, and alumni are welcome to attend.
