2017 Ph.D. Hooding Ceremony
The Graduate School held its 2017 Ph.D. Hooding Ceremony on May 13 at the Durham Convention Center. The event was attended by 251 Ph.D. recipients, 205 faculty members, and more than 1,200 guests. Kenneth Gergen (Ph.D.'63 psychology), recipient of the Distinguished Alumni Award, was honored at the ceremony and addressed the graduating students.

In all, 410 Ph.D. students earned their degrees in the 2016-2017 academic year. They, along with 160 master's degree recipients, comprised the largest graduating class in the history of The Graduate School.
