About 90 Duke graduate students and faculty and staff members attended The Graduate School's annual Graduate Students and Faculty of Color Reception on September 27 at Sarah P. Duke Gardens. Speakers at the event included

  • Ben Reese, vice president for institutional equity;
  • Abbas Benmamoun, vice provost for faculty advancement;
  • Melanie Walker, a law student and president of the Duke Black Graduate and Professional Student Association;
  • Dionna Gamble, a Ph.D. student in genetics and genomics and a member of the executive board of the Bouchet Society; and
  • Rashmi Joglekar, a Ph.D. student in environment and president of the Graduate and Professional Student Council.
