New Funding for Master’s Students’ Conference Travel, Research Supplies

The Graduate School has established a new fellowship to help support conference travel and research supplies for master’s students.

The Dean’s Research Award for Master’s Students will provide up to $1,000 to fund conference travel or research supplies in support of a student’s degree completion. Current students who are in one of The Graduate School’s master’s programs and in good academic standing are eligible to apply. The 2019 application period runs from January 15 to February 15, and recipients will be notified by March 31.

“Master’s students are a rapidly growing segment of our graduate student population and an integral part of the graduate community at Duke,” Graduate School Dean Paula D. McClain said. “This fellowship is part of our continuing efforts to provide greater support and opportunities for them in various aspects of their education.”

In addition to the new fellowship, The Graduate School has been offering master’s-specific professional development programming since spring 2017. In January and February 2019, there will be five master’s workshops in the school’s Professional Development Series. Master’s students are also eligible to apply for the school’s Emerging Leaders Institute, which began in 2014.
