2016 Commencement: Numbers and Photos

The Graduate School held its Ph.D. hooding ceremony on May 14 at the Durham Convention Center, where 255 Ph.D. students received their diplomas and celebrated with families and friends.

Ralph Alan Cohen (A.M.'69, Ph.D.'73 English), a noted Shakespearean scholar, received the Distinguished Alumni Award during the ceremony. Cohen, the only American to win the prestigious Sam Wanamkaer Award from Shakespeare's Globe, addressed the graduating students and recounted his own experience at Duke.
